I started The Fabled Thread with the ambition of introducing everyone to the joys of sewing and making your own art. There are so many benefits to it beyond just the piece you make; its the ultimate antidote to stress. I want to make it as easy as possible for you to be able to discover the joy of sewing and build your creative confidence.
For the last few years I have been running workshops from our London studio. It has been wonderful to introduce so many of you to sewing and decorative painting, starting with the basics through to creating your own designs.
However, often in a group sessions it is hard for everyone to see exactly what is going on and after the workshops I wanted to make sure everyone had materials they could refer back to, if they lost confidence or forgot what we had covered. So our virtual workshops were born - I really believe these are the best way to learn!
Each course includes up to 90 minutes of video footage and it is all pre-recorded so you can watch it whenever, where-ever and however many times you like. You will have life-time access and over time we will keep adding content to each course to help keep pushing your skills.
Through these 3 courses, you will learn everything you need to start creating your own designs. Rather than launching as one course, we have separated the materials into our technical stitching course (Start Stitching), our course to guide you through creating designs (Freestyle Embroidery) and finally our decorative painting course (Decorative Framing). This way you can pick and choose what parts you would like to learn.
Over the course of 70 minutes of videos, this course will teach you all the basics of sewing from threading a needle, through to learning 10 different stitches and with downloadable designs to practice all you have learnt. Since the launch of the course, we have introduced a bumper new video covering more advanced techniques such as using darning decoratively and pekinese work.
Over the course of 80 minutes, this course will teach you how to decoratively paint frames. We will introduce you to all the materials you need, the considerations which go into creating designs, as well as over a dozen freehand painting motifs. You will then go on to learn some more advanced techniques such as stenciling, using tape to create designs and reverse glass painting for mounts.
Freestyle embroidery is all about having the confidence to express yourself in thread. Over the course of 90 minutes, I will take away the fear so many people experience when faced with a blank piece of paper, and empower you to start designing. I will show you my unique approach for finding inspiration, choosing colours, constructing designs and more, giving you a structured approach to finding your creative voice.
Whilst you don't need a kit to go alongside the video course, we have developed an Embroidery Sampler which complements the videos. This kit includes all you need to start stitching with a colourful patterned design printed on natural linen, a selection of threads and needles and an embroidery hoop.
Note: you will need to buy kit in a separate transaction to the video course.
